Johann Major (1564-1654) was pastor, professor of theology and superintendent in Jena. In eventful and painful times that saw the consolidation of Lutheran theology after the Reformation, the Thirty Year's War and several plague years, he exerted great influence for the benefit of the theological faculty, the entire university and the city of Jena as a whole.
